As part of our Albany 2026 program, we invite you to experience a vibrant season of exhibitions, performances and creative moments across May and June. From powerful storytelling through art to immersive cultural events, there is plenty to discover during your visit.
A highlight of the season is Women in Whaling, an artist in residence exhibition by Jo Wassell, on display until 31 May. This moving exhibition shines a light on the often-overlooked women who helped shape Australia’s whaling communities. Through portrait drawings, photography and archival research, you will discover intimate stories that offer a new perspective on this shared history.
On Saturday 16 May, our amphitheatre will come alive with KAARLA WIRREN (Fire Spirit), a powerful outdoor performance celebrating resilience, culture and connection. Created by respected Elder Aunty Carol Pettersen and presented by Southern Edge Arts, this free community event invites you to gather under the stars and share in a story shaped by fire, spirit and community.
In June, you can explore Turbulence, a striking exhibition by artist Lizzie Riley, on display from 3 to 23 June. Featuring fibre textile and mixed-media kinetic sculptures, the exhibition reflects on movement, energy and the calming moments that follow. The exhibition forms part of Rapture, a one-night-only immersive experience on Friday 5 June.
Rapture brings together contemporary dance, visual art and dining in an intimate evening inspired by the tides, the moon and the restorative power of the sea. Your experience begins with the opening of Turbulence, followed by a captivating performance in the Station’s atmospheric oil tank theatre, before concluding with a specially curated dinner at the Whalers Galley Café overlooking King George Sound.
You can also take a moment to slow down in our new Well-Being Pod, where artist Serena McLauchlan hosts a relaxed, drop-in creative experience every Tuesday and Thursday. Inspired by the natural beauty of Torndirrup National Park, you are invited to contribute to a collaborative mural and enjoy a mindful moment during your visit.
Whether you are drawn to art, performance, history or hands-on creativity, this season offers a rich and engaging program to experience at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station.
