Emissions Reduction Program

A big future with a lighter footprint

At Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, we believe that preserving the past and protecting the future go hand in hand. As custodians of a nationally significant site and proud tourism operators, we’re taking real steps to reduce our environmental impact, ensuring our stories, our site, and our surroundings can be enjoyed for generations to come.

We’ve committed to the Tourism Emissions Reduction Program in partnership with Carbonhalo (formerly ERC Australia) and are actively working toward energy self-sufficiency by 2028. This commitment is already driving change, with major upgrades across lighting, water management, digital systems, and operations, bringing sustainability into our everyday work without compromising the experience we offer.

Our team is proud to be part of a national movement leading the way in responsible tourism, and we’re aligning our efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in clean energy, sustainable infrastructure, responsible consumption, and thriving communities.

We see this as more than just an emissions reduction plan. It’s a reflection of our values, our responsibility, and our belief that positive impact can come from even the most remote corners of the country. Through thoughtful action, strong partnerships, and a willingness to adapt, we’re building a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future, one project at a time.

What’s Next

Our path to sustainability is continuous. With regular reporting, transparency, and community partnerships, we’re leading by example in regional tourism. By 2028, we aim to power our entire site with renewable energy while enhancing environmental education and deepening our local and global impact.
