A fibre textile and mixed-media kinetic sculpture exhibition by artist Lizzie Riley exploring turbulence, drift, and the arrival of calm. Inspired by wind, water, and movement, the works reflect both visible and invisible force, where movement softens into serenity, floating toward a quiet and contemplative peace.
This exhibition forms part of Rapture, an intimate performance of contemporary dance about the restorative nature of the sea. A series of vignettes inspired by the tides, moon, and beautiful local coastline, and incorporating woven sculpture – Friday 5 June 2026.
Turbulence is on display and sale 3 to 23 June 2026, gallery open 9:00am to 5:00pm daily.
About Lizzie Riley
I have been working as an artist for 50 years.
The land is my inspiration- it’s textures, changing moods and surprises. For a while now I have been using natural materials such as peppermint tree twigs and grasses to build sculptures which perhaps return to the landscape.
I also work with textiles usually in their natural state.
It is important to me that the materials are used randomly not a strict placement pattern.
This is to express the idea that nothing is linear no matter how society may try to make it so.
About Turbulence
As a child I loved the wind!
Such exhilaration!
The world (Gaia) breathing!
All movement creates turbulence- visible and invisible.
These works were made in connection with the contemporary dance performance Rapture.
The opportunity to collaborate has helped me visualise the turbulence created by the dancer’s movements.
The filming of their performances has momentarily freeze-framed the turbulence created by their moves. My thanks go to John Carberry (film maker), and the dancers Jess Ruggera, Talitha Maslin and Nicola Bairstow.
