A journey through memory and landscape, When the Bush Awakens, is a captivating series of abstract mixed media works on paper by artist Terri Pikora. Hand-stitched and layered with paint and drawing media, each piece evokes the powerful and lingering impressions of the Australian bush.
Inspired by the unique textures and rhythms of the Great Southern, Pikora transforms half-remembered sensations — the scent of crushed eucalyptus, the shimmer of wattle, the heat of sun on skin — into tactile, fragmented landscapes. The thread becomes a line of memory, a scar, a path through the scrub, connecting past and present in a deeply personal expression of place.
With evocative titles such as The Colour of Remembering, Flowers Dancing in the Haze, and Bush Notes in Thread, the works offer glimpses into an emotional terrain where nostalgia and nature intertwine. Influenced by artists like Robert Juniper, Michael Raedecker, and Joan Mitchell, Pikora’s work sits at the intersection of abstract expressionism and textile art.
When the Bush Awakens invites viewers to experience the bush not as it is, but as it is remembered — fragmented, sensory, and alive.
On display and sale 1 – 30 August 2025, gallery open 9am to 5pm daily.
