Spring has arrived on the South Coast and our Wildflower Garden and Australian Wildlife Park are bursting to life with beautiful blooms, new animals, and a range of wonderful springtime activities for all ages.
From garden walks, art demonstrations and an Art Trail exhibition, to the return of the popular Nocturnal Wildlife Park Tours, there is something for everyone to enjoy these spring school holidays. In addition, we are OPEN all long weekend.
At 1pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the holidays, excluding public holidays, you can join a Garden Highlights Walk & Talk through the Regional Wildflower Garden. Each walk focuses on what is flowering, and will give you an opportunity to discover some of the regions hidden treasures.
During the school holidays, have a go at our scavenger hunt activity and create your own adventure while exploring the Wildflower Garden’s paths and boardwalks, or try the chatterbox activity while exploring the Wildlife Park and learning about our Australian wildlife. You never know what you might spot!
The eight local Albany artists of Phoenix Fine Arts (Abigail Parker, Deidre Barrott, Helen Heerey, Leo Birch, Marjan Bakhtiarikish, Ron Baker, Roger Mills, and Suzanne Randall) have once again collaborated this spring to create Natures Palette art exhibition, as part of the 2024 Southern Art & Craft Trail. This exhibition features a beautiful array of artwork and is on display and sale from 21 September to 31 October, gallery open 9am to 5pm daily.
Watch an artist work their craft when Abigail Parker demonstrates the delicate art of wildlife watercolour painting in the retail gallery on Monday 30 September from 11am. Abigail will create a detailed wildlife study demonstrating the layering technique from the initial drawing through to paint application. Then explore marine themes with artist Helen Heerey in the gallery on Wednesday 2 October from 2pm. Helen will demonstrate the application of loose wet-in-wet watercolour technique to achieve stunning undersea effects.
Our popular Nocturnal Wildlife Park Tours return for four night only this spring, Tuesday 24 and Friday 27 September, and Tuesday 1 and Friday 4 October. Meet the amazing Aussie animals and passionate wildlife keepers on this twilight tour. Join our keepers for an hour long guided tour and discover the nocturnal furry, feathered and scaly wildlife in a whole new light. Bookings are essential, as places are limited.
Plus, make sure to visit our newly opened Whales from the Air exhibition, featuring a Cessna 337 spotter plane that operated for the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company. Discover the spotter pilots’ personal stories, and learn how planes and drones are now used for whale conservation.
Spring is an ideal time to enjoy our region, and the activities planned at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station will delight visitors and locals alike. For more information visit our EVENTS page.
