You can walk on the actual decks where the whales were processed, climb aboard and explore the last whalechaser in Australia, or stand underneath the skeleton of the last sperm whale harpooned in Albany. There is no other whaling display in the world as accessible as this!
Your entry ticket provides unlimited access to all exhibits including the popular Cheynes IV ship, our whale oil tank theatres, amazing marine skeleton display, and fascinating photo and artefact galleries.
Our site is a self-guided experience so grab your map to start your adventure, and find yourself immersed in the sights and sounds of the whaling industry.
Plus, at 11.30am & 1.30pm daily we have a pop-up Audio Experience commencing on the flensing deck. The audio runs for approx. 15 minutes and walks you through the flensing and cutting-up decks, and the processing factory, providing an insight into the history of that part of our extensive historical site.
Enjoy a BBQ lunch or picnic in our undercover picnic area or admire the view and seafood cuisine at Whaler’s Galley Café. There’s even a whale themed playground for the younger visitors!

Whales from the Air

With a 12 metre wingspan the Cessna 337 spotter plane takes pride of place within our new permanent exhibition, Whales From The Air, opened July 2024.
Discover the advancements in historical whaling made by using aircraft, while comparing historical whaling practices and modern conservation practices, to see how the use of aerial surveillance has changed over the years. Read the spotter pilots’ personal stories, and learn how planes and drones are now used for whale conservation

The Art of Scrimshaw

A once traditional pastime of bygone whalers, now sought-after and rare, takes centre stage in our permanent exhibition, The Art of Scrimshaw, opened May 2023.
Exploring the history and creative process of scrimshaw, in the context of the whaling industry, The Art of Scrimshaw features artwork from internationally renowned Scrimshander, Gary Tonkin. Included in the exhibition is Tonkin’s largest and most intricately carved piece, an intact 4-metre Sperm whale jawbone.
Originally taken from one of the largest Sperm whales caught by the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company, and hand crafted by Tonkin over the past 30 years, this exquisitely unique masterpiece now sits pride of place within the exhibition.
