Join award-winning artist Andy Dolphin as he takes sketching to the next level with pencil and pen, and finishing with loose watercolour in the historic surrounds of the Whaling Station. Whether you want to create a painted journal, or start urban sketching, this class is for you.

Saturday 11 January 2025

9:30am to 3:30pm

$140 per participant

In this one-day workshop, Andy Dolphin will guide you through a process of simplifying shapes and dealing with the much-dreaded issue of perspective. Beginning with pencil and sketchpad, you will learn about thumbnails and basic line work. Andy will set a simple exercise in pen and wash then, time and weather permitting, you will put your newfound sketching skills to the test choosing from the variety of interesting subjects around the Whaling Station.

This workshop is suitable for ages 15 years +, from beginners, to those who have some drawing skill but who want to improve the fundamentals or add a bit of colour to their work.

All workshop materials are supplied, plus morning tea (BYO lunch or purchase from cafe). You are also welcome to bring your own additional art material and supplies.

The workshop will be held onsite at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, please wear suitable footwear, and bring a hat and jacket.
