Our team are overjoyed to have been crowned WA’s top Tourist Attraction at the Tourism Council Western Australia 2024 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.
We secured the top honour at Saturday night’s Awards Gala Dinner, standing out among a prestigious list of finalists in the highly competitive Tourist Attractions category sponsored by Hello Perth. This award celebrates natural and built attractions that draw visitors for pleasure and interest, with an annual visitation under 100,000.
This award is a fantastic recognition of our hard work and collaboration within our community. We are honoured to represent Albany, the Great Southern and Western Australia. It is an incredible privilege to be recognised as a leading tourism attraction.
Our award-winning attraction allows visitors to step back in time and explore the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company, Australia’s last operational whaling station, while also offering the rare opportunity to board one of the world’s only accessible whale chaser ships. In addition to its fascinating historical exhibits, the precinct includes a wildlife park and extensive wildflower gardens, enhancing the educational experience with the region’s natural splendour.
The Gold Award win now sets the Historic Whaling Station up to vie for national gold at the Australian Tourism Awards, to be held in Adelaide in March 2025. Representing our region with pride, the team is eager to showcase Albany’s maritime heritage and world-class visitor experience on the national stage.
