There is a summer full of extra offerings at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station for both locals and visitors to the region. From our popular holiday activities program, creative and energising workshops, and an art exhibition, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Start the New Year on the right foot and support your health and wellbeing with our two Saturday morning Yoga Workshops, January 4 and 18. Enjoy a relaxing morning being guided through a 1-hour yoga session on the grass along the water’s edge, with experienced instructor Racquel Cavallaro. After the workshop, enjoy a healthy and rejuvenating breakfast at Whalers Galley Café. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.
Designed to enhance the onsite experience for children and families, our summer holiday activities program runs for three weeks, Monday-Friday, from January 13 to 31, with no pre-bookings required to join the fun.
Supported by the City of Albany, the program features an extensive range of fun and engaging activities, all included with your admission ticket. Discover Albany’s own wave energy technology and the threatened species of our region. Get crafty with sand art and meet some of our friendly wildlife. Learn about the amazing creatures that live in our oceans with Marine Biologists, Renae Van Noort from UWA, and Charlotte Krause from Ocean Discovery Education.
For those looking to further their creativity this summer, make sure to book your spot at the Pen & Wash on Location Workshop on Saturday January 11. Join award-winning artist Andy Dolphin as he takes sketching to the next level in the historic surrounds of the Whaling Station. Whether you want to create a painted journal or start urban sketching, this class is for you. All materials provided, and the workshops are suitable for ages 15 years and over. Spaces are limited, so booking is essential.
Andy Dolphin’s stunning watercolour and gouache artworks take centre stage in Point of View, an exhibition that takes you on a tour of subjects that inspire him on his artistic journey. From the West Coast through the Great Southern to the South Coast, Andy captures a variety of scenes from life. Point of View on display in our Retail Gallery from January 4 to 30.
Plus, every day over the school holidays, visitors can join our Processing Factory Audio Experience at 11:30am and 1:30pm. This is a 15-minute audio track that guides you through the processing factory, providing an interesting insight into the history.
Summer is a beautiful time of year in Albany so why not pack lunch and enjoy the garden picnic areas, or treat the family to a delicious meal with the best ocean view in Albany from Whalers Galley Café.
With so many great events and activities on offer, a whole day of discovery awaits you at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station. We are open every day over summer (only closed Christmas Day), and annual passes are available.
