Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, home to the Regional Wildflower Garden is preparing for a Spring full of activities for wildflower and creative enthusiasts.

On Mondays and Thursdays over spring we invite visitors to meet our head gardener at 12:30pm for a Garden Highlights Walk & Talk. Each walk will vary based on what has flowered that week, activity in the garden and visitor interest, with talks introduced to provide visitors with understanding of the South Coast regions importance to Australia’s biodiversity. The walks run Mondays and Thursdays each week, excluding public holidays.

Albany Outdoor Painters also return for another art exhibition and sale featuring paintings and sketches of local landscapes, seascapes and Albany architecture produced by six local artists. This exhibition and art sale is on from 26th September to 11th October, open 9am to 5pm daily.

A Plein Air workshop, Watercolour & Wildflowers, hosted by local artist Ros Jenke is planned for Thursday 8th October to complement this exhibit. Participants are bound to find inspiration in our wildflower garden boasting ocean views, and enjoy working on their own masterpiece under guidance from Ros. Renowned local botanical artist Ellen Hickman then enters our gallery from 13th to 30th October with Second-Sight, an exhibition of Plein Air paintings. Hickman’s new collection of work was borne about from a double retina detachment and subsequent cataracts leaving her with a blurred view of the world. This exhibition showcases the resulting impressionist landscape paintings and the story behind the, open 9am to 5pm daily.

September and October are ideal months to enjoy our region’s wildflowers, and the events planned will delight visitors and locals alike.
