The Whale Chase
NEW exhibit opening this week!
History comes to life in a new interactive exhibit to be launched by the Australian National Maritime Museum at Albany's Historic Whaling Station this week. Peter Rout, Assistant Director of Operations at ANMM will officially open The Whale Chase, on Thursday 14th June.
Featuring rare and previously unseen archival footage from Australia’s last whaling station, delve into the life of a whaler and discover the high seas drama of The Whale Chase.
Visitors will be able to experience aspects of a whale chase while on-board the Cheynes IV Whalechaser ship, using a variety of senses including visual, auditory, movement and touch.
The exhibit brings history to life in an interpretative and interactional way, and has been made possible by The Maritime Museums of Australia Project Support Scheme, funded by the Australian Government through the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Department of Communications and the Art.
The Whale Chase exhibit arrives in a significant year for Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, as 2018 marks 40 years since the closure of the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company and the end of whaling in Australia.
The Whale Chase exhibit opens Thursday 14th June and is included with entry to Albany's Historic Whaling Station. Visit our ticket information page for entry prices or call 08 9844 4021.
