The Last Season
40th Anniversary year commences
Today, 1st March 2018, marks 40 years since the start of what was the last whaling season here in Australia. The 1978 season started like any other after a month of preparations by the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company crew. Two whales were caught by the Cheynes IV whale chaser over the day, the very first whales of the season. Unbeknown to the employees and locals – it was to be the final year of the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company operations and the end of whaling in Australia.
Join us next Thursday 8th March for a Sunset Concert on the grounds of the Historic Whaling Station to mark the start of The Last Season and our 40th Anniversary series of events. Tickets on sale now!
