Connecting People, Places and the Past this Australian Heritage Festival.
In November 1978, the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company closed, ending the era of whaling in Australia. Forty years later, a new documentary film shares personal accounts and reflections on what was to become a defining moment in our history.
During the 2019 Australian Heritage Festival (18th April - 19th May) you will be able to view the newly released End of an Era documentary film located within our Panorama Tower, and have the opportunity to meet the characters from this film and hear their stories.
Join them on Tuesday 23rd and Tuesday 30th April at 11.30am, and discover their personal insights into this unique chapter of Australia’s history.
Ocean Awareness Craft
Help us make a mass squid shoal out of recycled plastic bottles!
Plastic waste is a major cause of marine pollution and we can all do our part to reduce its impact on our environment.
During the April school holidays you can get crafty and have fun creating a squid out of recycled plastic bottles and materials.
Our craft space is open Monday 15th to Thursday 18th April and Tuesday 23rd to Friday 26th April, and is included with your Historic Whaling Station admission ticket.
Your plastic bottle squid will then be collected and displayed in an Ocean Awareness art installation at our Welcoming the Whales Festival, Saturday 1st June 10am - 2pm.
